Day of Percussion
I'm thrilled to be able to announce our Day of Percussion schedule! Day of Percussion, on March 18th (a Saturday), is a fantastic opportunity to perform, be adjudicated, and then learn from many clinics and performances how to be a more well-rounded percussionist. This year has an incredible line up of clinicians--Jay Lawrence, top-notch drumset player; Collin McNutt, percussion writer for the Boston Crusaders Drum Corps; and Pius Cheung, renowned keyboard percussionist and composer.
The schedule is as follows:
7:15 AM Call time at Band Room
7:30 AM Bus leaves from Timpanogos High School
8:15 AM Arrive at Riverton High School
9:24 AM Adv. Percussion performs
10:38 AM Int. Percussion performs
11:00 Clinic by Pius Cheung
12:00 PM Performance by Pius Cheung
12:30 PM Lunch (please let me know if you have food allergies or considerations I need to know about)
1:00 PM Gold Spike Percussion
1:30 PM Jay Lawrence Drumset clinic
2:30 PM Colin McNutt
4:00 PM U of U/USU Percussion concert and Awards
5:30 PM Leave Riverton High School
6:30 PM Bus arrives back at Timpanogos
This is an all day thing, so please plan accordingly. In the concert band world, percussion is often shunted to the side and the focus is often more on brass and woodwinds. This is our opportunity to celebrate the unique world of percussion and get truly meaningful instruction from percussion experts in diverse areas.
Some of you preparing solos are also given an opportunity to perform your solo and receive comments. Something unique is that it is also a competition--there will be a first, second and third place given in all categories. If you have something you'd like to prepare, I highly recommend you try. Please let me know soon so I can get you registered and paid for.
Let me know if you have any questions!
